Neely Nelson Wade, M.D., FACOG, has spent her career caring for women through those moments. Now, she’s bringing that experience home to Genesis OB/GYN Group.

A native of Crooksville, Dr. Wade is joining the team at the hospital where her story began.

“I’m honored to care for women and families in the community that shaped me,” Dr. Wade said. “Whether someone is coming in for her first appointment, preparing to welcome a baby or has a new health concern, I want her to feel supported and informed every step of the way.”

Dr. Wade completed a general surgery internship at Mount Carmel Health System in Columbus, followed by a four-year tour in the United States Navy as a general medical officer.

Dr. Wade brings experience from UPMC Mercy and UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and the Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe.

“I want patients to feel comfortable discussing their concerns. My role is to provide guidance, answer questions and help women make informed decisions about their care.”

Lifeline of Ohio (LOOP) recently recognized Genesis HealthCare System’s 100th placenta donation that was made in September. Genesis began participating in the LOOP placenta donation program in 2019. This program is a collaborative effort of Genesis Women’s Services and OB/GYN physicians at Genesis.

“The opportunity to donate can be offered to every mom who is having a planned C-section,” said Kristy Ritchie, M.D., OB/GYN with the Genesis OB/GYN Group. “The donation process is easy and doesn’t disrupt the birthing plan for the mom or the protocols the physicians and hospital staff use for Cesarean births. Collaborating with Lifeline of Ohio to offer our patients an opportunity to donate has been easy. It’s a great way for expectant moms to do a simple act that will help others.”

Placentas are used to create healing grafts. On average, one donated placenta can create around 25 grafts. Multiple components in placental tissue are used for a wide range of procedures involving eye, oral and spine surgery and to treat difficult-to-heal wounds such as diabetic foot ulcers, venous leg ulcers, pressure ulcers and burns. Genesis Recognized for Efforts in Supporting Breastfeeding

Earned 5 Stars from Ohio First Steps for Healthy Babies

Zanesville, Ohio (June 24, 2021) – Genesis HealthCare System has been recognized with a 5-star rating for its promotion and support of successful breastfeeding by the Ohio First Steps for Healthy Babies program. The program is a joint effort of the Ohio Hospital Association and the Ohio Department of Health. Genesis earned this recognition by achieving the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding as defined by the World Health Organization and Baby-Friendly USA.

“Our team is honored to receive this recognition of our efforts to ensure babies have a healthy start to life through successful breastfeeding,” said Carolyn Blenis, Director of Genesis Women’s Services. “We understand the support a new mother receives from our staff can impact her decision to breastfeed. Increasing the number of breastfed newborns can lead to a decrease in future health conditions such as asthma, diabetes and obesity.”

The Ohio First Steps for Healthy Babies is a voluntary breastfeeding designation program that recognizes maternity centers in Ohio that promote, protect and support breastfeeding. A star is awarded for every two steps achieved in the program, with five stars being the highest level of achievement.
