Eye-level shot presents a variety of healthy food bowls. A bowl of blueberries sits beside a bowl of sliced radishes and cucumbers. A bowl of cooked grain, apples, and blueberries is nestled near an apple and a couple of pears. A final bowl with cooked chicken, squash, and broccoli completes the spread.

Eat more fiber without giving up flavor

Fiber may not sound exciting, but it’s one of the best helpers for your body. Think of fiber as a broom that helps clean out your digestive system and keep things moving the way they should.

Fiber does a lot of work behind the scenes to help keep your body healthy. It supports digestion and helps you feel full longer, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The problem? Most people don’t eat enough fiber each day. Somewhere along the way, chips became easier than apples. Your stomach has probably noticed.

The good news is that eating more fiber does not have to be boring or complicated. Many everyday foods already contain it.

Try adding more of these fiber foods to your meals and snacks:

  • Apples, pears and berries
  • Broccoli, carrots and sweet potatoes
  • Black beans, kidney beans and lentils
  • Oatmeal, brown rice and whole wheat bread
  • Popcorn, nuts and seeds

Small changes add up

A few swaps can help boost fiber without changing your whole diet. Choose whole-grain toast at breakfast, add beans to tacos or swap chips for popcorn during movie night. Yes, popcorn counts as a whole grain, which may be the best news you hear all day.

Fiber-rich foods also give your body important vitamins and nutrients. The National Library of Medicine recommends fruits, vegetables, beans and whole grains as healthy ways to increase fiber in your diet.

When adding more fiber, start slowly and drink plenty of water. Too much fiber too quickly can leave your stomach grumbling louder than a hungry toddler.

Healthy eating doesn’t have to be perfect. Small choices each day can add up over time, helping support digestion, energy and overall health while making it easier to feel your best.
