Exercise is great for your body and your mind. It helps you feel strong, happy and full of energy. But did you know that your skin needs a little extra care after you work out? Taking care of your skin after exercise can help you stay fresh, healthy and glowing.

Sweat and glow

When you exercise, your body gets warm, and you sweat. Sweat helps cool you down, but it can also mix with dirt and oil on your skin. If you do not clean your skin after a workout, you might get pimples or feel itchy. The American Academy of Dermatology Association says it is important to wash your face and body after you exercise to remove sweat, oil and bacteria.

Start by washing your hands, then gently wash your face with warm water and a mild cleanser. You do not need to scrub hard. Just use your fingertips to clean away sweat and dirt. If you cannot shower right away, use a clean towel to wipe off sweat and change into dry clothes as soon as you can. Wearing clean, loose clothes after exercise can help prevent skin problems like rashes and acne.

The Dermatology Group of the Carolinas recommends moisturizing after you wash your face to keep your skin soft. Exercise can make your skin feel dry, and moisturizing helps keep it healthy.

If you exercise outside, remember to use sunscreen to protect your skin from the sun’s rays. Even on cloudy days, sunscreen helps prevent sunburn and protects your skin.

So, after your next workout, give your skin a little extra love. Wash away sweat, change into clean clothes and use moisturizer. Your skin will thank you, and you will feel great from head to toe.
