Our Classes Offer Certified Childbirth Educators

Our childbirth classes are designed to prepare you for your special event and make your childbirth experience a joyous memory. Classes are taught by certified childbirth educators and provide instruction to help you before and after childbirth.

Class Registration

Early registration is recommended to better ensure an opening in a class time that meets your schedule.

Childbirth Preparation

Childbirth Preparation

This class focuses on the physical and emotional changes occurring during pregnancy.

Attendance is recommended during the last three months of your pregnancy. This class presents information to prepare for and and enhance your labor experience. Topics include, pain management and epidural; induction of labor; C-section; abnormal signs and symptoms; relaxation; helpful tips for support persons; and a tour of the labor unit.

The following is information on classes:

  • Weekdays/evenings, two-hour class for five weeks or
  • Registration is required
  • $60 fee

Prenatal Breastfeeding

This class provides information to help you make the right feeding choice for you and your newborn. The class, which is held once a month, encourages breastfeeding but presents information to help you decide which type of infant feeding is best for you.

Any first-time mom or previous breastfeeding mom will benefit from this class. Fathers or support persons are encouraged to attend. We recommend you attend between your fifth and eight month of pregnancy.

Breastfeeding Support for Success

This class offers professional and mother-to-mother support. Bring
your infant for a weight check and have the opportunity to ask our
lactation consultant questions reguarding your infant. The
instructor will review age appropriate norms for the breastfeeding
infant. This class is offered every Monday 10:00 a.m.-noon and all
mothers are welcome.

Breastfeeding for the Working Mom

Mothers who will be returning to work or school are encouraged to contact the Lactation Department at (740) 450-6455 and schedule a free one-on-one consultation about 2-3 weeks before returning to work.This meeting helps prepare the breastfeeding mother for a smooth transition back to work or school. Selection and use of a breast pump, proper storage of breast-milk and options for nutritional supplements for breastfed or bottle fed babies are a few of the topics covered.

Baby Basics

Basic baby care is covered with hands-on demonstrations.

We recommend you attend a one-session, 2 hour class at seven to eight months during your pregnancy.

Sibling Class

This class helps prepare children ages three to 12 for the arrival of a new brother or sister.

Sibling Class Topics

  • How the baby is born
  • Baby’s appearance
  • Feelings about the new baby’s arrival
  • How to help take care of the baby

We recommend your children attend this class two to four weeks before your due date. Parents are asked to attend and stay with your children. This is a two-hour class.

Pediatric CPR

Being prepared for emergencies may mean the difference between a positive and negative outcome.

Postpartum Education

Mothers are provided with education on the obstetrical unit following baby’s birth. This education covers care for mother and baby after delivery.
