Matter of Balance Classes

Do you worry about falling? Does this fear limit what you do?

We are here to help.

Many older adults have concerns about falling and restrict their activities. Genesis Outpatient Rehabilitation is offering three free 8-week sessions of Matter of Balance, an award-winning program designed to help participants learn about fall risk, prevention and safety. Classes meet once a week at Genesis Outpatient Rehabilitation, 3297 Maple Ave., Zanesville.

 

Matter of Balance 2024 Sessions

There will be two eight-week Matter of Balance classes offered in 2024, one in the spring and one in the fall. The dates and times of each session are listed below:

Wednesdays from 1 to 3 p.m. 

  • April 3 – May 22 
  • September 11 – October 30

 

Who should attend?

Anyone concerned about falls, especially if they:

  • Have fallen in the past
  • Have restricted activities because of falling concerns
  • Are interested in improving balance, flexibility and strength

Each class is two hours and consists of educational lectures and exercises supporting the techniques discussed. Exercising begins the third week of class. Participants do not need to be current Genesis patients to attend.

 

Genesis also offers support groups for Stroke and Parkinson's Disease patients.

As an added safety measure, each class includes two coaches to provide participants with extra support during exercises and instruction.
