New Specialty Pharmacy Opening at Genesis
Monday, December 30, 2019
Zanesville, Ohio (Dec. 30, 2019) – Genesis HealthCare System is offering a new specialty pharmacy service to patients in our region, starting Thursday, Jan. 2, 2020. The Genesis Specialty Pharmacy will provide medications not normally available in retail pharmacies. The specialty drugs are for patients with complex chronic and/or rare conditions such as cancer, hepatitis C, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, cystic fibrosis and others. Specialty pharmacies handle medications that are typically high cost and available through limited or restricted distribution. Over half of all money spent on medications in the U.S. each year goes toward specialty drugs.
“Offering a Specialty Pharmacy is a true benefit to our community,” said Dianna LeVeck, chief administrative officer at Genesis HealthCare System. “Providing local access and having an integrated care team is going to provide a new layer of support to patients with chronic conditions who rely on high-cost specialty medication for their treatment.”
The Genesis Specialty Pharmacy will help our patients proactively manage their chronic medical conditions. There will be seamless managed care between the physician’s office, hospital and pharmacy, saving our patients time and money as well as reducing re-admissions or hospitalizations due to issues from not taking the medication as prescribed.
Genesis is collaborating with Shields Health Solutions, a specialty pharmacy company that works inside hospitals across the country with patients who require specialty drugs. Shields’ services include obtaining the prior authorization from the patients’ insurance carrier, aiding in attaining financial assistance and providing medication education materials.
These highly complex medications will be available by delivery or pick up at 860 Bethesda Drive, Building 2, Suite 1A, in Zanesville, across the street from the Physician Pavilion. For more information, call the Genesis Specialty Pharmacy at (740) 450-1620.
