Genesis Awarded Funding From Susan G. Komen Columbus

Zanesville, Ohio (May 11, 2016) – Genesis HealthCare System, Breast Health Initiative was recently awarded $31,780 from the Susan G. Komen® Columbus to provide screening mammograms, diagnostic mammograms, ultrasounds, surgical consults and breast biopsies to an estimated 196 women in Muskingum, Morgan, Perry and contiguous counties. Genesis Breast Health Initiative was one of 22 breast health programs to receive more than $1.46 million in funding from Komen Columbus®.
“The support and work of Komen Columbus allows us to provide life-saving breast screening services to women in our communities who are uninsured or underinsured,” said Sharon Parker, director, Genesis Cancer Services. “We have been honored to partner with Komen Columbus in providing breast screening services. We began receiving funding in 2006, enabling Genesis Breast Health Initiative to provide more than 1,925 free services as well as a travel stipend to the women.”
Genesis HealthCare System Breast Health Initiative plans to use the funds to provide breast screening services and necessary diagnostic testing to women in Muskingum, Morgan, Perry and contiguous counties targeting women who do not have funds to obtain a breast mammography due to their uninsured or under-insured status.
