Genesis Receives Quality Achievement for Stroke Care
Zanesville, OH (Aug. 10, 2015) – Genesis Hospital received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines®–Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award. The award recognizes the Genesis’ commitment and success in ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized standards.
“The number of strokes is expected to increase over the next decade. Therefore, this recognition means that Genesis is going in the right direction to help its patients,” said Keela Barker, director, Genesis Neurosciences.
To receive this award, Genesis has developed a system for rapid diagnoses and treatment of stroke patients. Genesis achieved 85 percent or higher adherence to all Get With The Guidelines–Stroke achievement indicators for two consecutive years and 75 percent or higher compliance with five of eight Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Quality measures.
According to the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, stroke is the number five cause of death United States. On average, someone suffers a stroke every 40 seconds; someone dies of a stroke every four minutes; and 795,000 people suffer a new or recurrent stroke each year.
