Genesis Hospice Achieves Level Three for We Honor Veterans
Zanesville, OH (Dec. 10, 2014) – Genesis Hospice Care achieved a Level Three status today as part of the “We Honor Veterans” campaign.
Genesis Hospice is the only hospice in the area offering this unique type of care. The national campaign provides care and support to veterans. “We’re pleased to be able to offer this specialized care for veterans in our area,” said Rebecca Jenei, R.N., B.S.N., M.A.E., director of Genesis Hospice Care. “Patients and families appreciate our ability to reach out and help veterans in our community,” Jenei said.
In order to receive a Level Three status, Genesis Hospice had to undergo advanced training for staff and volunteers, educate the community about veterans’ needs and focus on meeting patients’ and families’ goals for care. Genesis Hospice also had to develop and implement a Veteran-to-Veteran volunteer program. The innovative model for serving veterans at the end of life pairs recruited veteran volunteers with hospice patients who have been identified as veterans.
The “We Honor Veterans” program focuses on respectful inquiry, compassionate listening and grateful acknowledgment. The program is provided through the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization in collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs.
