Shaping Futures is an interactive hands-on program for children 5 to 11 years old. It’s designed to help children and families make healthy lifestyle choices. With the help of our team, you and your child will learn to make positive changes toward a healthy future.
We’ve redesigned the program to focus on ways to implement a healthy diet and exercise into your family’s life. During the sessions, kids will enjoy the social time, interactive learning activities and the opportunity to win prizes. Shaping Futures is free and does not require a physician referral.
The program is for children ages 5 to 11 years old accompanied by an adult. The sessions are on Mondays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Muskingum Recreation Center (MRC) at 1425 Newark Road, Zanesville. MRC is located behind Ohio University/Zanesville and Zane State College.
The program includes:
- Safe, fun games and exercise taught by certified fitness professionals
- Nutrition education taught by registered dietitians
- Opportunities to learn games and exercises to do at home
- Methods for improving healthy choices and behaviors
- Tracking height, weight and body mass index
Your child will have sessions with the Shaping Futures team to set health and behavior goals. These group sessions cover different lessons on health and nutrition, including realistic healthy nutrition for busy lifestyles, stress and emotional eating, food label education, portion control techniques, budget and kid-friendly healthy foods, and more.
During each session, your child will have the opportunity to participate in fun games and exercise. The Shaping Futures team will be there with you and your child every step of the way.
