Is Hospice Just for People With Cancer?

Hospice provides support for anyone in the end stages of a life-limiting illness such as:

Individuals could also be eligible for hospice if they have declining health without a specific disease diagnosis.

Where Can Hospice Take Care of Me?

Our experienced staff can care for you at home or anywhere you call home - like nursing homes, assisted living residences or Morrison House (with qualifying circumstances.) Wherever you call home, we will be there to share in your journey.

Will a Hospice Nurse be Available All the Time?

You'll have regularly scheduled visits from the hospice team. A hospice nurse is also available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to answer questions or assist with your medical concerns.

Does Choosing Hospice Mean I am Giving Up Hope?

Choosing hospice does not mean you are giving up hope. Hospice is one of the most life-affirming forms of health care. Choosing hospice means you have decided to live your life with quality, comfort, compassionate support and dignity - despite your life-limiting illness.

Will My Doctor Still be My Doctor, and Can I go Back to the Hospital for Care?

Yes, your physician will still direct your care. A hospice medical director is also part of our team and is available for consultation and periodic home visits. In the uncommon event a hospice patient needs to go to the hospital, our hospice staff will help make it a smooth transition from home.

What If I Change My Mind?

You have choices in health care and hospice is one of them. The hospice provider is also your choice. If you feel hospice is a good option for you now but change your mind later, you may stop receiving hospice services at any time. Restarting hospice is as easy as a phone call to our office. We'll be there for you.

What Grief Support is Offered to My Loved Ones?

Your loved ones will be offered support by hospice social workers, chaplains and grief counselors. Hospice will continue to support your family through correspondence, phone calls and memorial services. A grief counselor will be available for individual counseling and group support if needed.

How Do I Get Hospice Services?

All you have to do is call our office. Family friends, nurses, physicians, clergy ... anyone can refer a patient to hospice. The hospice nurse will schedule a time to talk with you about hospice services and how our team can help you. If you decide hospice services are a good choice for you, our  nurse - along with your physician - will make the arrangements to enroll.

How Long Can I Receive Hospice Services?

You can receive hospice services for as long as a physician verifies you meet the guidelines for hospice care.

How Much Does it Cost?

The cost of hospice services are generally covered by Medicare/Medicaid and most health insurance plans. In cases where there is limited or no coverage, Genesis Hospice & Palliative Care provides care regardless of your ability to pay.
