Injury Prevention Program
The Injury Prevention Program at Genesis is the only injury prevention program targeted toward traumatic injuries in this region. Our goal is to reduce injury, death and disability in southeastern, Ohio through education, outreach, service, advocacy and research. Our key focus areas are fall prevention, motor vehicle crashes, ATV crashes and traumatic brain injuries. The trauma team works with community and state-wide partners to raise awareness for reducing injuries by focusing on reminding people to ThinkFirst - think first before getting in the car or on an ATV. By remembering to ThinkFirst, you can take an extra moment to think to protect yourself and reduce your risk of an injury. For more information on trauma injury prevention, please contact us at (740) 455-7670 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
ThinkFirst’s goal is to reduce the incidence of brain and spinal cord injuries in our most vulnerable population - children, teens and young adults. Did you know that injury is the No. 1 cause of death among children and teens?
The good news is most injuries are preventable. The Genesis ThinkFirst program reminds kids through education to use their minds to protect their bodies. Do your children wear a helmet every time they ride a horse, bike or four-wheeler? Are your teenagers reaching for a cell phone while driving or are you texting while driving?
- Sending or receiving a text while behind the wheel is like driving blindfolded the length of a football field at 55 mph.
- Using a cell phone while driving, even if it's hand-held or hands-free, delays your reaction as much as having a blood alcohol level of .08, the legal limit.
- Not wearing a helmet while riding a bike makes you 14 more times as likely to become a fatality if you're in a crash.
