Genesis Psychiatric Services

Caregiver Hand on Patient Shoulder

Your mental health can be affected in many ways by many factors. And just like most medical conditions, sometimes you need the help of professionals to guide and support you on the road to recovery.

Genesis HealthCare System is here with a highly trained and compassionate team of psychiatrists, psychologists, certified counselors, therapists, social workers, nurses and support staff to guide and support your down the path to recovery.

Inpatient and outpatient programs are offered, with programs for children/adolescents and adults.

Inpatient Treatment

Inpatient services are provided in three different settings within the hospital with physicians, nurses, social workers and therapists supervising each patient's treatment plan.

Inpatient and partial hospitalization psychiatric care is provided for adults and youth at Genesis-Bethesda in three different settings. A team supervises each patient's (adult or adolescent) treatment plan.

  • A private, secure unit for adults
  • A closed unit for intensive psychiatric treatment
  • A pediatric/adolescent unit

To promote a healthier environment, the Teen With Parent and Doctorpsychiatric unit is smoke-free. Smoking cessation options and counseling are available.

Outpatient Programs

You may not need intense inpatient treatment, and Genesis has several outpatient programs that can help you. Services are based on individual needs and may include family and group therapy, stress management, recreation therapy, wellness education and social service support.

Outpatient psychiatric care is provided through our partial hospitalization program in a short-term, supportive environment. The program bridges the gap between hospital treatment and returning to the community. In many situations the need for a hospital admission is reduced or the length of a hospital stay is decreased by participation in the program.

Adult Partial Hospitalization

This program provides intensive outpatient psychiatric treatment for adults when inpatient care is not needed. The program is held Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon.

Some clients may benefit from an alternative program, which is held Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8 to 11 a.m.

A physician referral is required. For more information, call us at (740) 455-4930 or 800-322-4762, ext. 4930.

Child/Adolescent Partial Hospitalization

This three-hour, three-day-per-week program can be used as an alternative when the intensive outpatient level of psychiatric care is not needed. This program is held:

School Year Sessions

Anger Management

Anger is a normal human emotion that varies from mild irritation to intense fury and rage. Anger can become a problem when it is felt too intensely or too frequently, or when it is expressed inappropriately. In everyday life, it is important to have the skills to deal with anger ... our anger management program can help.

Group Program

Group sessions are held Tuesdays from 5 to 7 p.m. for six weeks. Individual sessions may be arranged. During the program, you will learn:

  • What anger is and when it becomes a problem
  • What causes you to become angry
  • The cycles of anger
  • Strategies and techniques to properly manage and express anger

We also offer a combined Anger Management and Drug Use program that consists of four sessions and occurs once a week. The focus is on dealing with anger issues while in recovery. An intake assessment is required before enrolling.
