Cancer Services Keeps Quality in Mind for Future Goals
Genesis’ cancer services department strives to ease burdens and provide comprehensive, quality care through its updating of services. Some of the changes in 2010 and 2011 for the department include:
- The opening of the Genesis Hematology & Cancer Care Center.
- State-of-the-art linear technology for two of the latest cancer treatments in relation to radiation therapy.
- Accreditations earned from the American College of Surgeons – Commission on Cancer; the National Accreditation Program for Breast Cancers (NAPBC) and the American College of Radiation Oncology (ACRO).
- The opening of the Genesis Breast Center in the Genesis HealthPlex.
Cancer services continues to ensure you receive support and top-notch medical care. One of the department’s top priorities in regards to quality care is working on the American Society of Clinical Oncology’s Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI) measures and accreditation. The benefit to these measures is the department will provide care based on best practice standards in the medical oncology field.
Using these measures, the department hopes to become the second in Ohio to become QOPI accredited. The measures look at symptom and toxicity management; care at the end of a patient’s life; and the treatment of breast, colon, rectal and lung cancers and lymphoma.
Additional quality studies in the works include: a lung study, a timeliness study of cancer patient referrals to hospice, breast quality measures and compliance with national treatment guidelines
