Genesis Hospice Achieves Level Two Status for We Honor Veterans

Zanesville, OH (July 3, 2014) – Genesis Hospice Care achieved a Level Two status today as part of the “We Honor Veterans” campaign.

Genesis Hospice is a partner in the national campaign to provide care and support to veterans and is the only hospice in the area offering this unique type of care. “There’s a huge need in our community to offer specialized care for veterans,” said Rebecca Jenei, R.N., BSN, director of Genesis Hospice Care. “It surprises many people that one out of every four dying Americans is a veteran,” Jenei said.

Genesis Hospice had to meet several criteria before achieving a Level Two status. The criteria includes providing advanced training for staff and volunteers; helping patients and families access appropriate veterans benefits; educating the community about veterans’ needs; offering a veteran to veteran volunteer program; and focusing on meeting veterans’ and their families’ goals for care.

The “We Honor Veterans” program focuses on respectful inquiry, compassionate listening and grateful acknowledgment. The program is provided through the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization in collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs.
