Genesis Sponsors Symposium on Innovative Communication Tool
Zanesville, OH (Oct. 14, 2013) – Genesis HealthCare System is sponsoring a symposium called "A Pathway to Healing Through Bioethical Mediation." The symposium will be on Thursday, Nov. 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Ohio University Zanesville/Zane State College Campus Center. The doors open at 5 p.m. with light refreshments and the opportunity to visit vendors. The symposium features Victoria Kumorowski, JD, LLM, MJS and DMin, director of Spiritual Care at Genesis. "Bioethical mediation is a communication tool used to help patients, family members and health care professionals quickly resolve many different types of ethical issues and conflicts," said Kumorowski. The innovative communication tool gives participants the chance to opening express concerns and seek solutions.
Genesis has been using the communication process for several years to provide clear communication between the health care team, patients and family members. "At Genesis, the bioethical mediation process is based upon a holistic framework for providing compassionate, quality care," Kumorowski said. It can be used to address concerns that can arise in the patient’s care such as the diagnosis, treatment or prognosis of a patient’s condition, the goals of treatment, the allocation of resources or withdrawing/withholding treatment. "The process is designed to serve as a reconciling pathway to healing for everyone involved in it."
The symposium is free, open to the public and educational credits are available. To register, call Genesis Education Services at (740) 586-6535 or clicking on the tab, "Innovative Communication" on our website home page for a registration form.
