Local Medical Professional Honored with Distinguished Award
Cathy Huggins, RN, recognized by the American Heart Association
Zanesville, OH (May 16, 2013) – The American Heart Association honored Cathy Huggins of Genesis Healthcare System with the Pulse of Columbus Excellence in Nursing and Patient Care Award. The award is presented to medical professionals that are deemed the best of the best in cardiovascular care by their peers in the central Ohio community. The award was presented as part of the American Heart Association’s annual Heart Ball held at the Polaris Hilton.
Cathy Huggins, Genesis Heart and Vascular Services Accreditation Coordinator was chosen because of her efforts in improving care for heart attack patients as well. Huggins lead efforts in the Zanesville area to equip all area EMS with the capabilities to transmit EKG readings, a step that is critical in expediting the process of care for patients thus increasing survival rate. In addition she led efforts to improve treatment times in the catheterization lab for heart attack patients and that placed automated external defibrillators (AEDs), with appropriate training, in area schools and golf courses.
