New Genesis Hospital Tops Out

Zanesville, OH (March 5, 2014) – A milestone in the construction of the new Genesis Hospital was celebrated in a topping out ceremony on Wednesday, March 5. Genesis HealthCare System and Turner Construction Company representatives as well as construction workers were on hand for the event.

During the ceremony, the final steel beams were hoisted into the infrastructure of the hospital’s new addition. A small evergreen tree, symbolizing growth and good luck, was atop the beam, which was signed by employees, physicians, volunteers, board members and donors to the project’s capital campaign fund.

“The ceremony marked a significant landmark in building the new hospital,” said Al Burns, chief development officer at Genesis HealthCare System. “It was exciting to watch the last beam going into the structure, knowing we’re another step closer to bringing a modern health care facility to our community.”

In October 2011, Genesis released plans to build a new hospital on its existing Bethesda Hospital site. Groundbreaking was held in May 2013, and the entire project is expected to be completed in 2015. The facility will consist of a new patient addition attached to a renovated Bethesda Hospital. A free-standing cancer center and medical office building are also being constructed on the site.

Topping out ceremonies are common in the construction industry and typically mark the halfway point of a building project. The events are also a way to thank those involved, such as construction workers and other tradespeople.
