New Genesis Hospital Facts 

The expanded Genesis Hospital will include:

  • All private patient rooms
  • A new addition attached to existing Bethesda Hospital building
  • Addition will include:  
    • Emergency/trauma department
    • Critical care unit
    • Interventional platform (operating rooms and cardiac catheterization suites)  
    • New outpatient Cancer Care Center
  • New medical office building
    • Neuroscience & Orthopedic Center
    • Heart & Vascular Center
    • Freestanding Behavioral Health Center

Economic impact:

  • Project estimate – Construction will cost $160 million with an additional investment of $40 million for new medical equipment and furnishings.
  • Reduction in annual operating cost with new medical center – $15 - $18 million

Timeline:

  • Cancer center opening – January 2015
  • New hospital opening – June 2015

Major design considerations:

  • State-of-the-art facility using  best practice design principles from hospitals across the country
  • All inpatient rooms will be private
  • Centers of Excellence for heart & vascular, cancer, orthopedics, women’s health, neuroscience and trauma/emergency
  • Single, expanded hospital will reduce duplicate services, eliminate patient transfers between hospitals, and eliminate confusion about which facility provides which service
