Accredited in Heart Failure - Genesis HealthCare System - Zanesville, Ohio

Genesis Heart Failure Accreditation

Genesis is the first hospital in Ohio to receive full Heart Failure Accreditation status from the Society of Chest Pain Centers (SCPC). This accomplishment, added to our status as an accredited Chest Pain Center, proves we are not only an excellent provider of heart services, but we are continually working to enhance those services for the people of southeastern Ohio.

What It Means to be Accredited in Heart Failure

Heart Failure Accreditation means that our hospital has the expertise, resources and commitment to manage patients with heart failure, from the emergency department setting, to inpatient care, to follow-up after discharge via Genesis HomeCare and the NurseLine.

Genesis earned the Heart Failure Accreditation by meeting or exceeding a wide set of stringent criteria established by the Society of Chest Pain Centers and undergoing an onsite review by a team of accreditation review specialists. Some of the criteria include processes within the health care organization that need to be in place to assist heart failure patients manage their disease. Other criteria include helping the members of our community understand what heart failure is, the signs and symptoms of the disease and how to prevent it.

What is Heart Failure?

Heart failure is when the heart can't keep up with its workload. If the heart muscle can't pump enough blood, it can't meet the body's need for blood and oxygen. It doesn't mean that the heart has stopped, just that the heart isn't working as well as it should. You might feel tired, get dizzy or feel short of breath, among other symptoms, but if you get the right treatment to manage heart failure, you can feel better and live longer.
