How Has Genesis
Prepared for the Flu Season?
We are taking a
proactive approach to this year’s flu season. This flu season,
scientists believe that a new and very different flu virus (called
H1N1) may cause a lot more people to get sick than during a regular
flu season. We have worked with area health departments and our
physicians to establish plans to fight the spread of the flu virus. Our
plans include maintaining the health of our staff to care for the
sick, protecting the patients who don’t have the flu from
catching the virus from those who do, and encouraging our patients
and visitors to take precautions to prevent the virus. We are:
• Limiting
our patient visitation • Requiring all Genesis employees to get
the seasonal flu vaccine • Establishing protocols to isolate
patients with flu-like symptoms • Asking visitors who have a
cough or other flu-like symptoms to wear a mask during their
stay • Locating hand sanitizer stations in public areas
throughout the Genesis hospitals and office buildings
Our medical staff and infectious disease
specialists will continue to monitor the 2009-2010 flu season as it
develops and will update the information on this web site whenever
appropriate. If you need additional information regarding your
specific symptoms, please contact your physician.
