Learning About Cancer & Your Family Tree
Health care professionals from southeastern Ohio are collaborating to offer “Digging Into Your Roots: Understanding Cancer & Genetics,” on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2005. The free dinner program will be held at the Pritchard-Laughlin Civic Center in Cambridge from 6 to 8 p.m.
Emily Gutter, M.S., genetic counselor with Myriad Genetic Laboratories, will present information on understanding hereditary cancer; knowing your cancer risk; identifying your family history; working with your doctor if you are at risk for hereditary cancer; and understanding health insurance coverage and genetic discrimination. Michele Hankinson, R.N., B.S.N., cancer genetics/research consultant with Genesis Cancer Services, will also give a brief overview of the new Genesis Cancer Risk Program.
Sponsors of the program are Genesis Cancer Services, Southeastern Med, the American Cancer Society, Myriad Genetics Laboratories, Inc., and Berlex.
This program and dinner are free, but registration is required. For more information or to register, call the American Cancer Society at 1-888-227-6446.
